Hey—I’m Lars Mensel, a writer and photographer from Berlin.
Here is a quick rundown of what I have been up to.
EyeEm. June 2016–Today
EyeEm is a community and marketplace for real photography. With an audience of 20+ million creatives, it’s a thriving global photography community for a new generation.
As editor, I’m in charge of EyeEm’s publication for photographers and image buyers. I also manage the company’s multi-platform content strategy and produce of articles, interviews, tutorials, and case studies.
Start-up Guide. December 2015–March 2016
The StartupGuide is a book series that profiles different European cities’ entrepreneurial communities and brings them together in a handy overview—think Lonely Planet for the startup scene.
I produced the content for the Berlin and Stockholm editions: For that, I interviewed 75 entrepreneurs, experienced founders, start-up accelerators, and owners of co-working spaces. I also photographed everyone I interviewed, as well as their offices and products.
Journalist, Product Manager & Photographer
The European Magazine. February 2011–August 2015
The European was a bi-lingual publication focused on op-ed pieces and debates surrounding current affairs, German and European politics, as well as society and culture. The European was published both as a digital daily and a quarterly print magazine.
As writer and lead image editor, I was in charge of technology, society and international politics coverage, acquiring authors, editing articles, conducting interviews, translating from English, Spanish, and Dutch into German. I was also responsible for the photos published in each print issue.
