August 20, 2020 Düsseldorf
For years, I’ve been fascinated with the suspended railway in the German city of Wuppertal, or the “hovering train” as the German term for it goes. Today I’m on a train towards Cologne, visiting some friends, and the plan was to stop in Wuppertal and finally ride this weird relic of 1920s engineering.
Unfortunately—as with everything one might plan in 2020—the railway is currently out of service, so I’ll just longingly stare at the track and watch some videos, like this recently remastered clop from MoMA that shows the train in its full glory at the beginning of the last century.
