When checking into one of our accommodations in Croatia, we met a very proud Bavarian. He wore a belt with the Bavarian coat of arms, had a flag of the state in his front yard and generally seemed to be quite homesick.
He had married a Croatian woman and seemed to enjoy the life they were having together, but the country never seemed to live up to his home in Germany. When showing us our room, he explained that there was a light switch you had to turn on for the WiFi to work. When I asked him about that curious installation, he shrugged his shoulders and just went: “It’s Croatia.“
